This Sydney data centre operated extensive rows of chillers that required continuous maintenance access for 24/7 operations, but the existing roof configuration made safe technician access extremely challenging. The chillers were positioned across varying roof elevations and between complex mechanical equipment arrangements, creating significant safety risks for maintenance teams attempting to service critical cooling systems.
The facility's mission-critical nature meant that any maintenance delays or safety incidents could impact server operations and client services. Traditional access methods were inadequate for the scale and complexity of the chiller installations, while the addition of access infrastructure needed to accommodate weight restrictions typical of data centre environments. The project was further complicated by EPA noise compliance requirements following neighbor complaints, demanding an integrated solution that addressed both access and acoustic challenges simultaneously.
Con-form Group developed an innovative integrated solution combining the EasyMech CR Raised Walkway system with strategic Acoustic+ LouvreWall placement to create comprehensive chiller access infrastructure. The ultra-lightweight modular raised walkway provided safe, elevated pathways connecting all chiller units while distributing loads evenly across the concrete roof structure through the unique EasyFoot CR© Anti-Vibration technology.
The raised walkway design incorporated strategic height variations to navigate around existing equipment while maintaining level access platforms at each chiller location. Integrated Acoustic+ LouvreWall panels were positioned to provide noise attenuation while maintaining essential airflow to the chillers, creating an effective acoustic barrier that protected surrounding areas without compromising equipment performance or technician access.
Con-form Group provided complete turnkey delivery for this complex chiller access installation, with specialised engineering focused on data centre operational requirements and safety standards. Our design team developed custom elevated walkway layouts that optimised technician workflow between chiller units while integrating acoustic management systems. The project included detailed coordination with data centre operations teams to ensure installation scheduling maintained critical cooling system functionality throughout the construction period.
The project was completed at a hyperscale data centre facility in Sydney, New South Wales.
